Double Dactyl

Higgledy piggledy,
Poetry challenges
Sometimes and mercifully
Give you a prompt
Just on the off chance that
Writer’s block hits you so
You won’t get whomped.

I used the NaPoWriMo prompt to write a double dactyl. Now that I’ve written a double dactyl (and used the word “whomped” in a poem, I can get on with my life.

(This poem and all poems posted during April 2011 are included in the free ebook, “30 Poems, 30 Days: Inside a Poet’s Mind.”)

  1. Now try to work the word “whomped” into casual conversation this weekend.
🙂 Nice poem. Made me smile.

  2. wow. I am still trying to wrap my head around this one…I love reading it but could never create a double dactyl…good work SJ!

    • I have been fascinated with meter since forever and geek that I am, have practiced it quite a bit over the years just for fun. If you break down the form into its parts, I bet you could make one! 🙂

  3. Can you get on with life after using “whomped”??? Loved it as always
